“Medicine is both an art and a science. The physician is a humanistic scientist who cares for patients. This requires the ability to think critically, evaluate the literature, appropriately assimilate new knowledge, and practice lifelong learning… Residents must participate in scholarship.”

Don’t just meet the standard…

In keeping with ACGME requirements, our program incorporates diverse academic opportunities and requires each resident to establish a record of scholarly activity before graduation.

However, the NMCP EM Program does not seek only to fill a requirement. Understanding the value of the well-rounded development of operational physicians, the program and faculty strive to create an environment that fosters the acquisition of critical skills through resident participation in clinical and operational-oriented research initiatives.

….beat it!

A dedicated research staff, including protocol developers, research coordinators, and statisticians, coupled with dedicated laboratories and facilities, provides an optimal environment for research. Ranging from benchtop and basic sciences to prospective clinical trials, the EM program provides the foundation for almost any research endeavor.

Recent resident research projects have been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and have made over 100 local and national presentations. They have also received awards from the American College and Academy of Emergency Medicine, the Military Health Research Team Award, and the McDade Award for excellence in resident research in three of the last five years.
